23 May The Black Canyon – A Great Place

If you haven’t ever been to The Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park (as it’s formally named) you really should go. It is said that The Black Canyon is a smaller, less crowded version of The Grand Canyon. It’s literally 15-20 minutes from Montrose to the South Rim Visitor Center (most popular side). You can stop here to get recommendations from park rangers, tour the interactive exhibits, watch the park movie, shop the park bookstore, and grab maps and brochures to inform your adventure – as they say on their site. The amazing natural beauty and breathtaking vistas are a must see for anyone. Click this link to their website with tips and helpful hints.
Now that the weather is warming up, it’s a great place to go hiking and enjoy the beauty and majesty of Western Colorado. The adventurous among you can go hiking The Gunnison Route for a real thrill. Make sure it is on your list – whether you’re visiting our area or you live here – it is a must see.
This coming weekend is Memorial Day weekend – the unofficial start to summer and the very official start of the BBQ season. How do you celebrate the holiday? My assistant and her family decorate the family plot at Crawford cemetery every year with flowers. My husband and I (and Sadie puppy) usually head to our cabin up in Arrowhead. Keep an eye on my Facebook and Istagram pages for events coming up this weekend and all summer. I hope you enjoy the holiday and have happy and safe weekend!
